About the role

Responsibilities

• Provide direct counseling and mental health services to students presenting with a range of mental health and wellness needs within the established counseling model, including same-day appointments, crisis management sessions, skill-based workshops, and individual and group counseling sessions (50%).
• Provide and coordinate outreach and programming to university students, faculty, and staff on mental health and wellness issues, with particular focus on serving the needs of varied, historically marginalized, and underrepresented student populations (20%).
• Participate in strategic initiatives relevant to University Health and Counseling Services’ efforts to ensure the department is a welcoming environment for all students; provide training and consultation to staff, including trainees, to further develop and promote culturally informed care in line with ethical guidelines in clinical service delivery (e.g., facilitate the multicultural seminar series for trainees) (15%).
• Provide regularly scheduled clinical supervision and training of pre-professional graduate trainees (e.g., psychology practicum students, doctoral interns), as assigned (10%).
• Participate in departmental and division committees, as assigned (2.5%).
• Perform other duties as assigned (2.5%).

Pay

The salary range is between $56,395 and $80,115, depending on qualifications, experience, department budgets, and industry data.

Qualifications

• 1 to 3 years professional experience in mental health care is required, which may include clinical experience as part of pre-doctoral training; experience with adolescent and young adult populations and/or experience within a university setting is preferred.
• Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology is required; degree must be conferred by position start date.
• Must be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Ohio as a psychologist; if not yet licensed, applicants are expected to be licensed within 18 months of employment.

• Demonstrated clinical skills: experience and ability to appropriately diagnose and treat a wide variety of clinical conditions and accurately assess risk of harm to self and/or others based on clinical evaluation and/or collateral report.
• Demonstrated multicultural, training, and interpersonal skills: experience and ability to communicate respect for all aspects of an individual’s identity, ability to engage in difficult dialogues, and ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.
• Demonstrated consultation skills: ability to work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical individuals and teams (both internal/external to the university) in order to appropriately assess the clinical and support needs of students and connect them to the appropriate level of care.
• Ability to demonstrate concern for understanding and satisfying needs of customers, co-workers and others with economy, efficiency, flexibility, courtesy, good judgment and continuous measurable improvements.
• Knowledge of and experience with electronic medical record systems and privacy requirements; adherence to federal and state laws and university protocols designed to protect the privacy rights of students.
• Willingness to learn and work with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies.
• Ability to meet consistent attendance and demonstrate dependable work habits.
• Ability to demonstrate successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
• Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, trainees, and customers face to face.
• Knowledge, experience, and training in telehealth.

Schedule

Full-time professionals are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week around the university’s core hours of operation. University Health and Counseling Services clinical work, outreach and campus crisis/emergency response efforts may require evenings and weekends. This position may be eligible for hybrid work after successful completion of orientation period, with up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department.
