Psychiatrist (Salem/Wilsonville)

About the role

The Oregon Department of Corrections is hiring one Psychiatrist at the Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) in Salem, OR, and may also require work at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, OR. This position requires on-site/in-person work, but a hybrid schedule may be possible.

Responsibilities

• Provides psychiatric assessment and psychotropic medication management services, as clinically indicated, to adults in Oregon Department of Corrections custody who suffer from mental illness.
• Coordinates care with QMHPs, nurse practitioners, and other physicians, and refers patients to programs and services as appropriate.
• Operates within the guidelines of the Oregon Medical Board, practicing within the guidelines of accepted medical practices, Oregon Department of Corrections rules, federal and state laws, state medical licensing rules, and NCCHC guidelines.
• Completes clinical documentation in the medical record, ensuring informed consent for all medications prescribed is documented.
• Responds to offender communication forms and grievances according to ODOC policies and procedures.
• Prepares reports and testifies as an expert witness or witness of fact when appropriate.
• Maintains required levels of continuing medical education and documentation of same.

Requirements

Psychiatrists shall hold a valid medical degree (M.D. or D.O.), have completed an approved psychiatric residency, be board-eligible or board-certified in general adult psychiatry, and be licensed to practice medicine without restrictions within the state of Oregon. They must also maintain a valid individual federal DEA certification and an up-to-date CPR certification. A current unrestricted license to practice medicine issued by the Oregon Medical Board and a valid individual DEA certification are required. Must be legally eligible to work in the US.

Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat mental disorders, including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties, drug interactions, and preventive health care measures.
