About the role
MEDIKO is a mission-driven organization dedicated to delivering high-quality medical care to correctional facilities. We seek a Psychiatrist who can provide comprehensive mental health care, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and support the diverse healthcare needs of our clients.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric care, including evaluations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure integrated, evidence-based care.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Support the mental health program within the facility.
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations, including mental status exams and risk assessments.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for inmates, addressing their unique psychological, social, and physical needs.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications as part of treatment plans.
- Offer individual and group psychotherapy sessions using evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
- Provide mental health education to inmates, correctional staff, and other medical personnel.
- Document promptly and properly.
- Address the mental health needs of high-risk or vulnerable populations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and make recommendations for safety protocols.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts and provide expert psychiatric consultation.
- Supervise and guide behavioral health staff to ensure high-quality care and professional development.
- Collaborate with correctional staff to ensure psychiatric services are provided in a safe and secure environment.
Requirements
- Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of California (MD or DO).
- Postgraduate training in General Psychiatry; training or experience in Forensic Psychiatry is helpful.
- Active and unrestricted DEA Registration (or willingness to obtain Registration).
- Board Certification in Psychiatry preferred.
- Experience in correctional healthcare or other settings with underserved patients preferred.
- Experience in diagnosis, treatment planning, and providing healthcare services in a managed care or correctional facility setting is highly desired.
- Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved) prior to Start Date.

Pay
The Psychiatrist position is offered on a Part Time basis, approximately 16 hours per week on site.
