Psychiatrist � Part Time

Location: Wilmington, NC – Part Time, 20 hours per week

About the Role

The psychiatrist provides behavioral health treatment to patients within Coastal Horizons Center clinic(s), including diagnosis, treatment, medication management, consultation, and follow-up care. The role delivers age- and specialty-appropriate care at the level of training achieved.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric and substance use treatment services in an outpatient clinic setting during scheduled hours.
• Conduct psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments for individuals referred for services.
• Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans in accordance with federal and state statutes, regulations, and protocols.
• Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue medications and treatments for mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Provide medication management, including direct delivery of injectables, and intermittent reassessment for patients not on medication.
• Counsel patients on medication benefits and risks during appointments.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate labs to identify and assess patient clinical problems and healthcare needs.
• Record findings, formulate plans and prognoses based on patient conditions, and respond to client emergencies as needed.
• Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer, administrative supervisors, nursing staff, medical assistants, therapists, and other treatment team members.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, outcome measures, and billing entries.
• Refer patients to other medical providers for consultation or specialized care when necessary.
• Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others regarding patient conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
• Respond to calls, emails, and messages promptly (within 24 hours or sooner if clinically necessary).
• Make independent decisions based on protocols developed using national guidelines and standards of care.
• Participate in case staffings with advanced practitioners and interdisciplinary treatment team members.
• Actively engage in agency and department education, training, and in-services.

Requirements

• Licensed by the state of North Carolina as an MD or DO.
• Active DEA license.
• Preference for double board certification in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry and Adult Psychiatry.
