About the role
A Hospice Psychiatrist is needed to provide comprehensive psychiatric care to patients with serious, life-limiting illnesses, focusing on comfort, dignity, and quality of life.
Responsibilities
- Conducts psychiatric evaluations to assess mood disorders, anxiety, delirium, cognitive impairment, and existential distress.
- Develops and manages individualized treatment plans, including prescribing and adjusting psychotropic medications in the context of complex medical conditions and polypharmacy.
- Prescribes and monitors medication effectiveness, side effects, and drug interactions, and implements deprescribing strategies when appropriate.
- Collaborates closely with an interdisciplinary team (physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and pharmacists) to support holistic, patient-centered care.
- Provides consultation on complex cases, including treatment-resistant symptoms, behavioral disturbances, and questions of decision-making capacity.
- Educates staff and caregivers on psychiatric conditions, symptom management, and safe use of medications in hospice care.
- Participates in care planning meetings and contributes to ethical discussions, as appropriate and as requested, regarding goals of care and treatment preferences.
- Documents clinical findings and maintains compliance with regulatory and hospice care standards.
Qualifications
- MD/DO, Residency in Psychiatry required
- MD/DO, DEA license required
- MD/DO, Completion of Residency in Psychiatry certification required
- 5 Years Experience Required

- Strong clinical skills in psychiatry
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Knowledge of hospice and palliative care principles
