What You’ll Do

• assess and treat mental illnesses
• provide complete psychiatric services including:
• assessment
• diagnosis
• medical prescription
• treatment
• prescribes, evaluates, and monitors administration of medications
• leads interdisciplinary teams in evaluating new patients and writes admission and discharge orders
• serves as a consultant to other medical staff
• prepares/submits evaluation reports to the courts and testifies in court proceedings

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• knowledge of professional principles and practices of medicine and psychiatry, and of current theories and practices in the field of mental health
• knowledge of medications and their effects on physical and psychological disorders
• ability to provide expert witness testimony regarding the status of patients’ psychological condition

Typical Qualifications

• Licensure as a Psychiatrist
