Psychiatrist (Education Debt Repayment and Sign on Bonus)

About the role

This position requires a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques. It involves providing quality care to a diverse population of patients, including those with mental illnesses and psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support networks.

Responsibilities

• Performs psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population of patients, including males, females, geriatric, and post-deployment combat veterans.
• Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions in various clinical settings, including the outpatient, inpatient, emergency department, primary care/mental health integrated programs, and hospital ward settings.
• Serves as a mental health team leader, coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals.
• Participates in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to enhance comprehensive patient care.
• Orders diagnostic tests and consultations, making appropriate treatment decisions based on findings.
• Ensures compliance with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies, clinical practice psychiatric guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes, regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPPA policies.
• Supervises and teaches in support of the psychiatric residency program, and provides leadership guidance and consultation to staff.
• Consults with other medical center staff and trainees to assist in implementing treatment plans for their patients.
• Completes clinical charting and documentation as required by the Medical Center or healthcare system.
• Engages in personal research programs to inform program planning and treatment approaches.
• Participates in performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
• Assists in the on-call rotation to provide coverage for urgent care, working shifts from 0700-1900.

Requirements

Must have a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the United States. Must have completed residency training in an approved core specialty training program leading to board certification. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs).

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be considered if it's not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
• Completed residency training in an approved core specialty training program leading to board certification.
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Skills

Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.

Schedule

Mon-Fri 8:00-4:30p. Psychiatrists are required to be part of the on-call rotation to provide coverage for urgent care. On-call shifts are from 0700-1900 and are assigned on a monthly basis.
