About the Role

The Psychiatrist will serve as a leader within the department and community, focusing on being a result-oriented problem solver who is responsible and accountable.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and treats mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders affecting adults, children, and their families.
  • Determines the nature and extent of disorders, establishes appropriate treatment plans, and discusses these plans with patients and/or responsible adults.
  • Provides emergency "on-call" services to resolve crisis situations at Variety Care and Northcare as needed.
  • Supervises Advanced Practice Providers (APP) and students as requested.
  • Prepares initial psychiatric evaluation reports on prospective patients, including reviewing social, medical, and personal history, interviewing patients, and assessing mental status.
  • Defines and documents differential diagnoses, listing the most likely diagnoses.
  • Completes all required documentation in electronic medical records according to deadlines and guidelines set forth by payers and leadership.
  • Assists in preventing relapses or morbidity in conditions that tend to recur over time.
  • Utilizes appropriate laboratory tests, determines normal and abnormal results, and develops health care plans based on analyzed data.
  • Formulates decisions concerning admission, prescriptive programs, and clinical management.
  • Monitors patient progress and ensures patient needs are met by communicating with residential, educational, medical, and other involved staff.
  • Determines the need for and arranges psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Attends scheduled clinical team meetings to review and evaluate patient prescriptive program planning.
  • Communicates with patients and/or agencies via telephone, correspondence, and conferences to discuss patient progress, therapy, drug-related matters, and aftercare planning.
  • Provides consultation to clinical and nursing staff to help manage assigned patients more effectively.
  • Provides Telehealth services from remote locations with a reliable internet connection, including from a provider’s home when necessary.
  • Supports Variety Care’s pursuit of accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home and commitment to providing care that is Safe, Effective, Patient-Centered, Timely, Efficient, and Equitable.
  • Works with all staff to achieve the goals of the “Triple Aim” of healthcare reform: improving the experience of care, improving health outcomes, and decreasing healthcare costs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • MD with an OK state license for the practice of medicine and OK Board certification in Psychiatry.
  • One year of internship.
  • Three years of psychiatric residency.

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
