Psychiatrist 2, G-38 -OR-Psychiatrist 1, G-38 (McPike ATC)
Duties
The incumbent will carry out psychiatric examinations and assessments, make diagnoses, write physician’s orders, determine the need for and carry out consultations with external psychiatric personnel, educate patients individually, participate with other clinical staff on the treatment team, respond to psychiatric emergencies, carry out discharge planning and post discharge referral, carry out quality improvement activities, may supervise a Nurse Practitioner Psychiatry, and other job-related tasks as assigned.
Computer skills are required, as well as flexibility to assist at other ATCs within the region as needed.
Note: The ATC uses a computerized patient record system.
Minimum Qualifications
- Psychiatrist 2:
- Must possess a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
- Psychiatrist 1:
- Must possess a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
Note: Candidates must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. Failure to maintain licensure, certification and Medicaid/Medicare eligibility will result in the termination of employment.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations, and negotiated union contracts.
