About the role
Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center (KFPC) is recruiting for a Psychiatrist 1 or Psychiatrist 2 to provide a full range of care and treatment to individuals incarcerated in the State and County Correctional System. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply. As a Psychiatrist at KFPC, you will be part of a diverse interdisciplinary team focused on providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and evidence-based treatment.
Responsibilities
- Perform psychiatric screenings, evaluations, and examinations.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures, diagnose, and treat various psychiatric conditions.
- Administer psychiatric treatments, medications, and therapies.
- Conduct follow-up exams and modify treatments as needed.
- Collaborate with other licensed physicians and healthcare providers on diagnoses and treatment plans, and approve treatment recommendations.
- Provide competency restoration and correctional mental health services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
- Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
- Candidates from within State Service may be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Additional Comments
- Psychiatrists at OMH facilities are eligible for the Psychiatrist Loan Repayment Program offering up to $120,000.
- Supplemental income of up to 50% of salary by volunteering to provide evening, night, and weekend coverage.
- Eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000.
