Psychiatric Technician (Safety) - PIP - California Institution for Women (CIW)

About the Role

This part-time Psychiatric Technician position is located at California Institution for Women in Corona, San Bernardino county. The role involves providing basic behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to patients in the Psychiatric Inpatient Program (PIP) under general supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse II/III, Correctional Facility, Unit Supervisor, or Senior Psychiatric Technician.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to patients in accordance with health care policies and procedures, Mental Health Program Guide requirements, and Title 22 regulations
• Collaborate with Registered Nurses and the PIP care team to ensure delivery of appropriate and timely health care to patients
• Coordinate interdisciplinary communication to promote continuity of care
• Provide support to the PIP care team for daily PIP operations under valid authorization by a provider's order and delegation/clinical direction of the RN
• Communicate effectively with patients, members of the PIP care team, and other members of the health care team
• Address ongoing needs of patients and work with members of the larger health care team
• Promote efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective use of health care resources
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within the department, other governmental agencies, health care partners, and communities

Qualifications

Under the general supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse II/III, Correctional Facility (CF), Unit Supervisor (Safety), or Senior Psychiatric Technician (Safety), the Psychiatric Technician (PT) (Safety) provides a basic level of behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to patients.

Schedule

This is a part-time position working 32 hours per week.

Pay

The monthly part-time salary range for this position is $4,907 to $6,274.

Note: Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 18 and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees to have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Effective May 01, 2022, employees in this class employed within CDCR and physically located at and assigned to the Psychiatric Inpatient Program shall receive a pay differential equivalent to 15% of their monthly base pay. Only employees who provide direct patient care, treating patients in-person, on grounds or at a facility more than 50% of the pay period, are eligible for this pay differential.
