Psychiatric Social Worker/Marriage & Family Therapist I/II

San Mateo County Health's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) is hiring Psychiatric Social Worker/Marriage & Family Therapist I/II in a range of specialty programs.

About the role

BHRS offers a comprehensive range of trauma-informed mental health and substance use services for children, youth, families, adults, and older adults. Positions are available in diverse settings, including:

• Community outpatient clinics
• Field-based settings such as homeless encampments and shelters
• Networks of community agencies and independent providers offering outpatient services, residential treatment, and rehabilitation
• Specialty teams, schools, and field-based teams in Daly City, San Mateo, Half Moon Bay, Redwood City, and East Palo Alto

Adult and Older Adult Services serve residents aged 18 and older with severe functional impairments due to serious mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use, medical, and/or developmental disorders. Youth Services focus on prevention, early intervention, and treatment for youth diagnosed as Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) and/or with substance use disorders.

Clinicians at Canyon Oaks Youth Center must complete 40 hours of annual training related to the field and are trained in the Professional Assault Crisis Training Model (Pro-Act) upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide a broad range of psychosocial interventions as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Deliver trauma-informed clinical treatment, assessment, diagnostic, and evaluation services
• Work with adults and youth with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, and histories of trauma
• Develop and implement realistic treatment goals
• Maintain excellent documentation, including progress notes, assessments, and client care plans
• Provide culturally appropriate and proficient services to diverse populations (e.g., Latino, Pacific Islander, African American, LGBTQ)
• Utilize electronic health/medical record systems (e.g., AVATAR, SOARIAN)
• Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours response (Youth Services Center or Psychiatric Emergency Services)
• Collaborate with families, co-workers, professionals, and community partners
• For Residential Youth Treatment: Apply principles of Trauma Informed Care in a multi-disciplinary setting

Requirements

• Current license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) OR registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT). If not yet registered, must have submitted an application and have at least one year of internship in a county-run behavioral health setting in good standing (documentation required).
• Master’s degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, or a closely related field
• Experience providing treatment for adults and/or youth with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders
• Knowledge of counseling principles, psychotherapy, clinical case management, crisis management, and treatment modalities
• Familiarity with community resources in San Mateo County and neighboring areas
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and maintain productive working relationships
• Fluency in a threshold language (Spanish, Tagalog, Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin), or Russian) is highly desired
• For school-based programs: Compliance with specialized requirements (e.g., Pupil Personnel Services credential) as stipulated by federal/state laws
• For Canyon Oaks Youth Center: Ability to complete 40 hours of annual mandated training

• $45.74 - $57.18 hourly
• $3,659.20 - $4,574.40 biweekly
• $7,928.27 - $9,911.20 monthly
• $95,139.20 - $118,934.40 annually

• $51.43 - $64.32 hourly
• $4,114.40 - $5,145.60 biweekly
