Responsibilities

  • Utilize the nursing process to provide quality patient care by completing assessments, analyzing data, and administering medication according to established standards.
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies, assess for suicide ideation, and manage appropriate risk levels.
  • Communicate with healthcare staff regarding patient mental health status, document findings in patient health records, and provide crisis intervention and counseling as required.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate activities of assigned shift, respond to intake area requests, and maintain a clean, safe, and secure working environment.
  • Initiate lifesaving measures, identify medical emergencies, and arrange transportation to hospital as needed.
  • Participate in interviewing and training new staff and be responsible for evaluating and training direct reports.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Experience: 3+ years’ working in a psychiatric nurse role, previous correctional/detention facility experience, at least two years’ experience providing treatment to adults with various mental health disabilities.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current (and must maintain) unrestricted RN license in state of practice, Psychiatric–Mental Health Nursing Certification, current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA.
