Psychiatric Registered Nurse

About the role

VitalCore Health Strategies (VCHS), an industry leader in Correctional Health Care, is seeking a Full-Time Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) at Topeka Correctional Facility in Topeka, Kansas. This role delivers quality psychiatric nursing care within the scope of practice outlined by the local state nurse practice act for Registered Nurses.

The RN ensures a safe environment for patients and staff, acts as a patient advocate, and promotes best practices in nursing. The position involves delegation, supervision, and accountability for the quality of care delivered by nursing personnel.

Responsibilities

• Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
• Administers medications to patients and monitors for reactions and side effects.
• Records patients’ medical information and vital signs.
• Monitors, records, and reports symptoms or changes in patients’ conditions.
• Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
• Modifies patient treatment plans based on responses and conditions.
• Monitors all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
• Directs or supervises less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel or supervises a particular unit.
• Prepares patients for and assists with examinations or treatments.
• Instructs individuals, families, or groups on health education, disease prevention, and health improvement programs.
• Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, or supplies and ensures stock of supplies is maintained.
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s condition.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in good standing.
• Experience in a Psychiatric / Behavioral Health nursing setting preferred.
• Current CPR certification.
• Drug and background clearance.
