About the role

Canopy Mental Health & Consulting is seeking a Psychiatric Provider (MD/DO, PA, or APRN) to work as an independent contractor (1099). The position can be performed in any combination of in‑office or telemedicine settings, offering a flexible schedule and high levels of autonomy. Clinicians who identify as BIPOC or as members of historically marginalized/underserved groups are strongly encouraged to apply. The contractor will provide outpatient services in close collaboration with outpatient psychotherapists, with moderate administrative support from a Clinical Manager who serves as the primary point of contact for clinical matters.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating clients by conducting intakes, assessing medical histories, and performing psychological testing.
  • Analyzing data and assessment results to diagnose clients.
  • Prescribing and administering treatments and medication based on client diagnosis.
  • Developing treatment plans, evaluating outcomes, and adjusting plans as necessary.
  • Taking consultation calls from staff regarding shared client emergencies as needed.
  • Collaborating with client care teams as needed.
  • Completing billing and clinical documentation accurately and timely.
  • Following legal and professional obligations, including HIPAA compliance, confidentiality, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, licensing criteria, and professional codes of ethics.

  • Valid DEA certificate.
  • Experience with and passion for working with marginalized communities and BIPOC clients.
  • Experience using an electronic health record (EHR) system; Canopy currently uses Procentive.
  • Comfortable working in a paperless service setting.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards governing care delivery and operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience, training, and willingness to work with children and adolescents.
  • Experience maintaining client records in an EHR and basic knowledge of insurance billing processes (CPT codes, diagnostic codes, use of modifiers, etc.).
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about providing culturally responsive services, equitable healthcare access, and understanding the social and economic challenges faced by clients.

Compensation

Contractor compensation is based on collected revenue. The applicable MinnesotaCare Provider Tax is deducted first, followed by a 30% administrative fee for billing and other administrative services. Any agreed‑upon charges, such as office rent or clinical supervision, are then deducted from the contractor’s share. The role is not eligible for benefits.

Schedule

Flexible schedule; work location is flexible and can be done in any combination of in‑office or telemedicine.
