Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (SMI)

Responsibilities

• Provides psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and annual psychiatric updates to adults.
• Offers consultation and clinical leadership for all members of the adult clinical team.
• Collaborates with the client’s Primary Care Provider on shared clients to facilitate a whole health approach.
• Maintains documentation in the client medical record per licensure and JFCS requirements.
• Orders labs per standard of practice as medically necessary when prescribing medication.
• Obtains medical informed consent from clients or guardians when prescribing medication.
• Maintains professional communication for coordination of client care with other agencies, PCPs, hospitals, EDs, and urgent cares.
• Practices in accordance with current ethical standards, state and federal laws, and professional standards.
• Provides clinical guidance to the multidisciplinary SMI team during daily morning meetings.
• Identifies barriers and challenges to care and resolves them in a positive, culturally appropriate, and solution-focused manner.
• Works closely with the chief medical officer when treating complex clients, including court-ordered and high-risk individuals.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary SMI team environment to coordinate care on behalf of clients.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with clients, tailored to diverse populations.
• Provides a positive experience for clients when delivering services.
• Maintains productivity standards as established by JFCS.
• Documents all services provided in the medical record within 24–48 hours.
• Completes documentation of informed consent when prescribing psychiatric medication 95% of the time.
• Completes judicial reviews, renewals, and amendments for court-ordered treatment as required.
• Monitors visit adherence for assigned individuals on court-ordered treatment.
• Responds timely to SMI crisis clients, especially those under court-ordered treatment.
• Orders labs per standard of practice 95% of the time.
• Sees clients within a half-hour of their scheduled appointment time 90% of the time.

Qualifications

• PMHNP certification by the Arizona Nursing Board with a current, unrestricted license to practice in Arizona.
• Full prescription authority and current DEA licensure.
• NPI designation.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a behavioral health setting or demonstrated equivalent experience.
• Level 1 fingerprint card without restrictions.
• Reliable transportation and a valid Arizona Driver’s License with auto insurance, meeting agency requirements for Motor Vehicle Record Report.
• Ability to utilize an electronic medical record and telehealth platforms for virtual visits if clinically indicated.
• Ability to perform essential job functions, including prolonged sitting, driving, lifting up to 20 lbs, walking, standing, and dexterity with a keyboard or smart pad.
