Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner / NP / Behavioral Health
About the role
We are seeking a compassionate and positive Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide therapeutic support for service users with mental health, behavioral health, and substance abuse issues. You will be responsible for managing psychotropic medications for the clients of RHA, including initial psychiatric evaluations and subsequent follow-up visits for medication evaluation and management.
This position is an integral part of the team and involves collaboration with RHA staff and other healthcare professionals in the community. We are interested in candidates who treat adults or children/adolescents.

Responsibilities
- Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations of clients
- Perform follow-up visits for medication evaluation and management
- Manage psychotropic medications for clients
- Collaborate with RHA staff and other healthcare professionals in the community
Requirements
- Certification as a psychiatric nurse practitioner or physician assistant
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual, developmental disabilities, mental health, and substance use challenges
- Licensed by the North Carolina Nursing Board as a Registered Nurse
- Nationally certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
- Familiarity with standards of practice for the position and NC Medicaid Board as a Nurse Practitioner
- Preferred: 3 years of experience in behavioral health care
- Complete a minimum of 20 hours of training specific to the required components of the service definition, including crisis response within the first 90 days of employment
- For employees providing Mobile Crisis Management (MCM): a minimum of one year’s experience in providing crisis management services in settings such as assertive outreach, assertive community treatment, emergency departments, or other services providing 24/7 response in emergent or urgent situations
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance coverage (if required for providing transportation for individuals)
- CPR, first aid, and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Maintain proficiency in company-sponsored training and certifications
Qualifications
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Ability to work with limited supervision, relying on experience, knowledge, and judgment
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to lift 20 lbs, with a minimum lifting requirement of 40 lbs
- Must be able to pull a minimum of 25 lbs
- Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop
- Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Regularly stand and walk
- Demonstrate proficiency in CPR from the floor level, requiring work on hands, knees, bending, standing, and lifting
- Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision
- Must be able to talk and hear
