About the role

SUNY Upstate Medical is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide high-quality professional psychiatric care to SUNY students via telemedicine. Services will include psychotherapy and medication prescribing.

Responsibilities

  • Assign psychiatric diagnoses, initiate medication management, review progress, and revise treatment plans.
  • Consult with other clinicians, advise patients on medical leave, and assess trauma histories.
  • Provide consultation services to primary care and counseling staff, and document and communicate outcomes.
  • Assist with program management and creation of documentation for clinical care and program management.
  • Use ethical principles when making decisions and treat others with respect and dignity.
  • Serve as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, demonstrating professionalism, leadership, and commitment to Upstate’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Protect patients' autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs while providing the highest quality of care.
  • Adhere to patient experience philosophy and customer service standards.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • NYS Licensed/Registered Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current National Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner consistent with clinical practice.
  • DEA certification by time of appointment.
  • NPI number and Medicare enrollment with a Medicare Identification Number (PTAN) (or eligible for Medicare enrollment within 6 months of hire).
  • CPR-BLS Certification required at the time of appointment.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment and credentialing clearances.
  • At least 2 years of outpatient Nurse Practitioner experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior Psychiatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) experience.
  • Telemedicine experience.
