Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (#021924) Broad River CI, Columbia (RICHLAND) Level 3

About the Role

Provides advanced psychiatric and medical care for individuals and populations with complex nursing and mental health needs under limited supervision of a South Carolina licensed psychiatrist. Works independently with minimal supervision, diagnosing and treating patients according to established protocols, and using prescriptive authority.

Responsibilities

• Establish and monitor standards for clinical practice within the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC).
• Monitor medication and conduct psychiatric assessments.
• Participate in treatment teams and complete health histories of inmates.
• Conduct suicide and crisis intervention assessments.
• Perform all admissions procedures for a designated caseload of mentally ill patients, including family history and complete physical examinations.
• Distinguish between normal and abnormal clinical findings.
• Attend probate court hearings.
• Order and accurately interpret diagnostic testing, including radiologic and lab studies.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing at the master's or doctoral level, including clinical experience.
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the SC Board of Nursing or eligibility for licensure (must be obtained within 6 months of employment).
• Three years of active clinical practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in correctional healthcare, community mental health centers, or emergency psychiatric care.
