Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Remote)

About the Role

Maximus is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to serve as a specialized, embedded provider focused on human performance optimization for Special Operations Forces (SOF). The PMHNP supports SOF Service Members and their families by promoting mission readiness, resilience, and long-term wellness through proactive, evidence-based behavioral health care. This role addresses operational stressors, brain health, mission readiness, and preventive care needs while collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, command stakeholders, and local leadership. This position is pending upon contract award and requires active secret clearance at minimum.

Responsibilities

• Review favorable and partially favorable determinations in accordance with applicable regulations and render determinations for assigned cases.
• Resolve technical issues within reconsideration assigned and review cases or sites to determine and summarize facts, assessing any identified issues.
• Perform special projects such as general legal or medical research, drafting proposal sections, or acting as a liaison for specific projects.
• Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services, including general screening, medical care, examinations for routine, acute, and chronic conditions, immunizations, diagnosis, treatment, and counseling.
• Diagnose and treat clients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, and Nurse Practice Acts.
• Promote preventive care and health maintenance, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care through education and counseling.
• Communicate mental health concepts in a manner that resonates with elite operators who may be skeptical of traditional psychological support.
• Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to support healthcare team plans, client and family education, and organizational health initiatives.
• Provide command consultation regarding de-identified morale and behavioral health trends to inform operational tempo decisions.
• Provide technical direction and evidence-based instruction to staff, including educational lectures and in-service training.
• Recognize conditions requiring isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all client encounters.
• Attend staff meetings to support case discussion, continuing education, continuous quality improvement, and safety initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of experience, OR Associate's degree with 5-7 years of experience.
• Master’s degree in nursing from a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
• Minimum of five (5) years of post-graduate experience in the independent practice of clinical psychiatric nursing.
• Minimum of two (2) years of prior experience in the Department of War (DoW) or Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) setting.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
• Board certification as a PMHNP by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or another recognized national nursing certification organization.
• Understanding of military culture and operational stressors within the SOF operator community.
• Proficiency in treating post-traumatic stress (PTS), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and chronic pain.

Pay

Annual salary range: $75,350.00 – $107,850.00. Compensation is based on job location, education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel, external market, and internal value analysis. Maximus provides a total compensation package that may include short- and long-term incentives, program-specific awards, and comprehensive benefits.
