Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Psychiatry (Kalispell, MT)

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work within a treatment team to help provide coordinated mental/behavioral health care to patients.
  • Create psychiatric care plans and integrate with existing behavioral/psychotherapeutic plans.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe appropriate psychiatric medications as indicated.
  • Recognize physical health issues and refer for patients for care as necessary.
  • Be available to teams as a resource regarding medications and treatments.
  • Evaluate responses to treatments and medications.
  • Cookordinate care with other healthcare professionals both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Act as an advocate for patients both within and outside of the organization.
  • Provide education and support to staff, patients, and families on managing psychiatric illness and disability.
  • Maintain licensure and certification required by AWARE, the State of Montana, and the federal government.
  • Participates in peer/record review process and other quality improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Performs at or above productivity benchmarks identified by AWARE so that services are sustainable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge and commensurate skills in providing psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and adults, including those with co-existing intellectual / developmental disabilities.
  • Accurate and effective written and verbal communication skills, and comfort working as part of, and sharing decision-making with, a therapeutic team.
  • Talents, Skills and Abilities: Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited nurse practitioner program; Must have APRN licensure in the state where employed or a compact party state and be board certified; ANCC or AANP Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or equivalent experience (to be determined by Medical Director); Must have prescriptive authorization; Knowledge of computer-based data management programs and information systems, as well as medical records and point-of-interview technology; readiness to learn and adapt to new technology as it is adopted by AWARE, and to provide input to the selection and implementation of such technology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in verbal and written form, with partners at various levels: patients, family members, physicians, members of the treatment team, and representatives of the community.
  • Sound understanding of all federal and state regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.
