About the role

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to inmates with mental health issues. This includes assisting in the nursing process, directing patient teaching activities, and implementing treatment plans under the guidance of Registered Nurses.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the delivery of patient care in the health care unit and housing units.
• Assists in assessing the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients.
• Plans and implements individual treatment programs using available resources and consulting with healthcare professionals.
• Administers medications and interventions as per provider instructions.
• Documents nursing encounters, patient responses, and complications, and communicates this information to supervisory personnel and physicians.
• Maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of the environment and supplies.
• Serves as a member of a nursing care and treatment team, assisting physicians as needed.
• Implements clinical and technical aspects of care according to established policies and procedures.
• Takes vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.

Requirements

• Current, unrestricted New Mexico Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) License.
• Current CPR Certification.
• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have a strong commitment to patient care and a willingness to work in a challenging and rewarding environment. Experience in correctional settings is preferred but not required.

Skills

• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of correctional health care systems and inmate populations.
