LPN- Med/Sug- Psych Facility
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a 13-week contract assignment at a psychiatric facility located on McNeil Island, Washington. This overnight role is ideal for an LPN with a strong Medical-Surgical background who is comfortable working with psychiatric patients and individuals with prior incarceration histories. The primary focus of this position is medication administration, medication room management, and supporting the interdisciplinary team in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled medication passes throughout the shift.
- Manage daily medication room operations.
- Accurately administer medications using manual pill pack systems.
- Monitor patients for medication effectiveness and adverse reactions.
- Maintain accurate medication documentation using paper charting.
- Provide nursing care to psychiatric patients in a secure treatment setting.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition to the RN and treatment team.
- Support therapeutic interventions and patient safety initiatives.
- Maintain professional boundaries while fostering a respectful care environment.
- Assist the RN during medical or behavioral emergencies.
- Collaborate with CNAs and other staff members to ensure quality patient care.
- Assist CNAs with evening routines and getting patients settled into bed each night.
- Respond appropriately to urgent patient care needs as they arise.
Required Qualifications
- Active Washington State LPN license.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience required.
- Experience with medication administration and medication room responsibilities.
- Comfortable using paper charting systems.
- Comfortable working with manual medication dispensing/pill packs.
- Ability to work effectively with psychiatric patient populations.
- Comfortable working with individuals who have previously been incarcerated.
- Current BLS certification.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
Assignment Details
- Schedule: Sunday-Wednesday, 10:00 PM-8:00 AM
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Extension Opportunities: Possible
- Start Date: August 3, 2026, or sooner
- Transportation: Unpaid ferry ride required to access the facility
- Charting System: Paper charting
- Medication System: Manual pill packs
