PSI Fellow
Overview
Physical Superintelligence is a startup leveraging expertise from leading institutions to build AI systems for discovering new physics at scale. The PSI Fellowship targets exceptional physicists interested in contributing to the frontier of AI-accelerated scientific discovery for 3 to 6 months.
Role and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with PSI's founding team and technical leadership on impactful research at the intersection of physics and AI.
- Work on projects aligned with your expertise, such as AI-for-physics benchmarks, physics discovery agents, verification and interpretability, post-training for scientific reasoning, or human-AI scientific collaboration.
- Contribute substantively to PSI's technical roadmap and, where applicable, publishable research advancing AI for science.
- Ship working systems using PSI's compute and tooling, rather than isolated research artifacts.
What We're Looking For
- Physics PhD or advanced PhD candidate with deep domain expertise in at least one physics field.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with modern AI and ML, not just theoretical knowledge.
- Built things, shipped models, or contributed to working systems.
- Strong programming skills in Python; experience with deep learning frameworks preferred.
- Available full-time for 3 to 6 months and excited about the potential of AI transforming physics.
Nice to Have
- Experience with LLM fine-tuning, RLHF, or other post-training methods.
- Background in agentic AI systems or multi-step reasoning.
- Published ML research or significant open-source contributions.
- Track record of crossing disciplinary boundaries between physics, ML, and software engineering.
How We Work
- We are engineering-led, with engineers and researchers owning problems end-to-end from spec to ship to on-call.
- We write contracts before logic, test against real systems, and favor simple designs that ship over clever ones that do not.
- Our development process is AI-native, with engineers working with agentic coding tools daily, writing legible specs, and leading with leverage.
Location and Compensation
This role is based in Boston. Remote candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Competitive fellowship compensation and access to PSI compute and tooling are offered. US work authorization is required for the duration of the fellowship; visa sponsorship is not provided for fellowship positions. This role may involve access to information subject to U.S. export control regulations. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diverse perspectives in our platform-building efforts.
