Overview
Physical Superintelligence is a startup leveraging expertise from leading institutions to build AI systems for discovering new physics at scale. The PSI Fellowship targets exceptional physicists to contribute to this mission for 3 to 6 months, aiming for substantial technical advancements and publishable research.
Role and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with PSI’s founding team and technical leadership on impactful research at the intersection of physics and AI.
- Work on projects aligned with your expertise, such as AI-for-physics benchmarks, physics discovery agents, verification and interpretability, post-training for scientific reasoning, or human-AI scientific collaboration.
- Contribute to PSI's technical roadmap and publishable research advancing AI for science.
- Ship working systems using PSI's compute and tooling, not isolated research artifacts.
What We're Looking For
- Physics PhD or advanced PhD candidate with deep domain expertise in at least one physics field.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with modern AI and ML, not just curiosity.
- Built things, shipped models, or contributed to working systems.
- Strong programming skills in Python; experience with deep learning frameworks preferred.
- Available full-time for 3 to 6 months and excited by the potential of AI transforming physics.
Nice to Have
- Experience with LLM fine-tuning, RLHF, or other post-training methods.
- Background in agentic AI systems or multi-step reasoning.
- Published ML research or significant open-source contributions.
- Track record of crossing disciplinary boundaries between physics, ML, and software engineering.
How We Work
- We are engineering-led, owning problems end-to-end from spec to ship to on-call.
- Engineers and researchers work with agentic coding tools daily, write legible specs, and lead with leverage.
- Our development process is AI-native, focusing on simple designs that ship over clever ones that do not.
Location and Compensation
This role is based in Boston. Remote candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Competitive fellowship compensation and access to PSI compute and tooling are offered. US work authorization is required for the duration of the fellowship; visa sponsorship is not provided for fellowship positions. This role may involve access to information subject to U.S. export control regulations. We are an equal opportunity employer.
