We develop and deploy advanced technologies to enable safe, efficient, and secure transportation systems. Focus areas include advanced weather sensing and forecasting systems, air traffic control (ATC) decision support systems, and cybersecurity and resiliency. The Group has broad expertise permitting end-to-end advanced technology development and prototyping, as well as agility to respond to emerging threats and opportunities. Extensive field evaluations and simulation studies are employed to elicit user needs, ensure user acceptance, and enable successful transition of new technologies into operational use. Key accomplishments include the development of the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar and deployment of decision support systems at numerous ATC and commercial airline facilities in the United States and beyond.

About the role

The Air Traffic Control and Weather Systems Group is developing a range of advanced aviation weather and decision support technologies to improve air transportation safety, efficiency, and cyber-resiliency. The candidate will participate on a product development team and support multiple aspects of the project, including designing and implementing algorithms and graphical user interfaces, engineering real-time systems, testing components, and documenting software. Prototype software development is an important aspect of our work.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement algorithms and graphical user interfaces
  • Engineer real-time software systems
  • Test software components
  • Assist with software hardening for technology transition to external users
  • Document software

Requirements

  • MS in Computer Science or related STEM discipline, or a BS with 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following software languages: Python, C/C++, Java, JavaScript, MATLAB
  • Proficiency in web and/or graphical user interface development frameworks/libraries: React, Vue.js
  • Experience with virtualized software environments
  • Experience with software containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with modern software DevSecOps pipelines
  • Strong communication and teaming skills

Qualifications

  • Cloud-based software architectures and deployments
  • Proficiency working with Python-based AI and machine learning software packages: NumPy, Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch, Scikit-learn

Pay

Recent Graduate Hiring Range: $116,400 - $140,000

Experienced Hiring Range: $116,400 - $182,200

Note: The final salary offered will depend on various factors, including—but not limited to—the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate’s experience, skills and education/training, internal equity considerations, and applicable legal requirements.
