Prototype Fabricator, Special Projects
About the Role
Our team is responsible for building prototypes, advanced concept models, and physical models that drive program decision making. We are a passionate group of engineers, fabricators, technicians, and machinists who collaborate to make cool things come to life. As part of this team, you’ll work closely with the fabrication team and alongside engineers to build prototype components, systems, and fully custom vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate complex parts with a variety of different materials and processes (metals, composites, wood)
- Build parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings
- Integrate with design engineers to create better parts and improve designs for prototype techniques
- Work independently with the initiative to solve problems quickly
- Utilize critical thinking skills to devise solutions to new problems
- Create physical models with little background with a willingness to fail fast and iterate often
- Build and assemble prototype vehicles to meet stated requirements
Requirements
- 5+ years of fabrication work experience in the automotive industry
- Valid driver license with clean record
- Leadership and first principle problem-solving mindset
- Eagerness to make progress
- Flexible hours to meet changing project demands
- Strong welding and metal fabrication skills
- Tube / chassis fabrication experience
- Knowledge of shop tools and software
- Proficiency with manual mill and lathe
- Knowledge setting up surface plate with CMM
- Strong automotive mechanical understanding
- Strong technical and mechanical ability
- Strong communication, multitasking, & inter-personal skills
Preferred Skills
- Computer skills (Gmail, Google Sheets, etc.)
- CAD skills (CATIA V6 preferred)
- 10% travel
Pay
The hourly pay range for this role is $47.33 - $59.16 for California-based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.

Full-time employee coverage is effective on their first day of employment. Part-time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
