About the Role

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for a Permanent, Intermittent appointment to the Protestant Chaplain classification. This position exists in Enhancement Services, under the direct supervision of the Program Assistant. Enhancement Services seeks an individual who possesses a high degree of professionalism, initiative, and independence in performing tasks. Candidates must communicate courteously, professionally, and effectively with different hospital departments.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and conduct Protestant religious services and other rituals of Protestant tradition for patients.
• Provide spiritual counseling to patients in groups and on units.
• Counsel patients and their families on moral and ethical problems.
• Establish rapport with patients, analyze situations accurately, and adopt effective courses of action.
• Use spiritual assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in the clinical setting.
• Understand and help others discover meaning in the experience of suffering, grief, and loss.
• Understand how psychosocial dynamics and cultural/ethical differences affect pastoral care practices and circumstances.
• Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-initiative and good judgment.
• Work in conjunction with the Full-Time Protestant Chaplain to provide coverage for religious services.

Requirements

To gain list eligibility and be appointed to the Protestant Chaplain classification, candidates must follow the exam process outlined in the Protestant Chaplain Exam Bulletin. Applications are pre-screened for breadth and depth of experience, and only the most qualified applicants may be interviewed.

Pay

$33.13 - $43.51 per hour.

Schedule

Permanent Intermittent - 1,500 hours.
