Responsibilities
- Develop, foster, and grow relationships with food donors, brokers, and shippers to source excess and cost-effective protein opportunities.
- Act as a liaison and advocate for the Farm to Family (F2F) Program, increasing protein donations and redistributing excess to California Food Banks.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with donors, shippers, brokers, the agricultural industry, and food banks across the state.
- Network broadly within the agricultural industry to identify new protein sources and donors.
- Secure the required volume of protein and keep the network informed about trends or issues impacting the agricultural landscape.
- Respond to complaints, mediate issues, and provide feedback, annual statistical data, and donor recognition under the direction of F2F Program staff.
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (in-person, phone, email, text) with the ability to relate to diverse personalities.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, meet deadlines, solve problems, and accommodate flexible hours.
- Knowledge of the local protein industry, marketing, distribution infrastructure, and familiarity with local producers and industry leaders.
- Understanding of local food bank management and the location of protein sources, operations headquarters, packers, and supporting infrastructure.
- Familiarity with agriculture/protein-related trade organizations, websites, and social media platforms.
- Ability to identify trends, project production cycles, and confidently make cold calls to develop new donors.
- Adherence to safety rules and practices during field visits or on-location work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
License & Equipment
- Valid driver’s license and dependable, insured transportation.
- Reliable equipment for email, text messaging, electronic reporting, and submitting monthly invoices.
Travel
Must be willing to travel within the assigned area. Infrequent overnight travel may be required.
