About the Role

As a Protective Security Officer (PSO) serving on a Federal Government contract, you will be responsible for maintaining security, enforcing regulations, and ensuring the safety of personnel and property. This position requires professionalism, vigilance, and a commitment to excellence in service. This is a Union position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide security protection and access control.
  • Protect all government property, classified material, and personnel within assigned areas to preclude unauthorized access, theft, or intentional destruction.
  • Report and respond to unusual or emergency situations.
  • Be alert for potential security, property, or safety concerns and initiate appropriate actions.
  • Control ingress/egress into and out of posted, controlled, or security areas.
  • Prevent and report all violations of security and safety rules and regulations.
  • Respond to protective alarm signals or other unusual/suspicious activities.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all security and guard orders, written and oral, pertaining to assigned duties.
  • Perform duties in outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures and weather, as well as high noise levels such as gunfire.
  • Subject to hazards including proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat, extreme cold, or chemicals.
  • Engage in heavy work: exerting up to 200 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must have visual and audio acuity to operate heavy equipment, fire apparatuses, firearms, and clearing barrels.
  • May be required to wear a respirator.
  • Must stand for extended periods, often without breaks, and may be required to climb stairs, ladders, inclines, or uneven terrain.
  • Must meet all physical and psychological standards required by the contract and be physically capable of standing a 12-hour post.
  • Work is typically at a federal government office with frequent interruptions and long periods of sitting, standing, or walking.
  • Extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required, with a minimum of three years of citizenship prior to the date of application.
  • One to two years of documented experience handling an explosive detection dog in an operational environment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within four to six weeks of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge within four to six weeks of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Security Threat Assessment (STA) for Airport Badge within four to six weeks of employment.
  • Adequate transportation to transport an assigned Canine and Crate (inside the vehicle) to/from work; transportation must have operational climate control.
  • Must pass applicable Contract Testing and Certifications for the program within four to six weeks of employment and maintain certification requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record for the last three years; must be compliant with REAL ID standards or possess a valid U.S. passport in addition to a valid driver’s license.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities.
  • Problem-solving skills with an analytical thought process.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Requires standing for long periods in all weather conditions.
  • Requires intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling.
  • Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Qualifications

  • High School/GED (required).

Schedule

  • Full-time shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have open availability and be able to work all assigned shifts.

Pay

  • $18.00 per hour during training, then $32.93 per hour.
  • Health and Welfare: $5.38 cash in lieu.
  • Salary range: $60,000–$75,000 annually.
