Accountabilities
- Lead the testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of substation protection and control systems across renewable energy assets.
- Develop and execute detailed relay testing plans using advanced testing equipment such as Doble, Omicron, Manta, and Megger systems.
- Analyze protection zones, interpret trip event files, and identify root causes of system misoperations to improve reliability and performance.
- Ensure optimal operation and compliance of protective relays, RTAC applications, SCADA systems, and associated control equipment.
- Cook up coordination closely with project teams, contractors, and operations personnel to support commissioning activities, maintenance programs, and system upgrades.
- Maintain accurate documentation of testing procedures, system configurations, troubleshooting activities, and updates within CMMS platforms.
- Monitor system reliability and support initiatives related to physical and cybersecurity compliance for protection systems.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to team members on protection and control methodologies, testing procedures, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, including NETA, IEEE, NFPA, and NERC PRC requirements.
Requirements
- A high school diploma, technical certificate, or equivalent technical education in electrical systems or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in substation protection and control systems, relay testing, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Strong expertise in protective relays, substation integration, SEL relays, and RTAC applications.
- Advanced knowledge of SCADA systems and communication protocols, including DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 61850.
- Proven experience with relay testing, protection zone analysis, electrical control systems, and interpreting complex electrical schematics.
- Hands-on experience with meter testing, calibration, diagnostics, and commissioning of protection systems.
- A comprehensive understanding of safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and NFPA 70E standards.
- Experience commissioning systems in accordance with NETA-ATS-2021, NETA-ECS-2020, and manufacturer recommendations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to mentor and support technical teams.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 75% of the time.
