Job Summary The Protection and Control (P&C) Field Services manager is responsible for the P&C groups located throughout the Alabama Power Company service territory. There are six regional field groups that perform commissioning and maintenance on substation protection and control equipment and one support group that provides guidance, training, and monitoring of compliance and budget for the entire organization. The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: Provide overall leadership and direction to the P&C Field Services organizationPromote Safety First as a core value and model Our Values behaviorsLead organization in a way that promotes inclusiveness and a great place to work atmosphereEnsure compliance with all applicable NERC requirements (PRC-005, FAC-008, etc.)Ensure Human Performance tools and work practices are fully utilized to achieve operational excellenceEnsure all responsible capital and maintenance work plans are completedCoordinate work planning with Design, PCA, Construction, TMC, and Operations groups to promote excellenceMonitor organizational training needs and ensure knowledge transfer supports organization missionEnsure all employees receive constructive performance and developmental feedbackProvide planning and oversight of P&C O&M budgetEnsure top level customer service is provided to internal and external customersEnsure appropriate regional responses to system operations and outages to aid the restoration processServe as APC ambassador on multiple cross-opco committees on P&C related issues Job Requirements EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Engineering Degree required; Electrical preferredActive Alabama Professional Engineers (PE) License highly preferredExtensive knowledge of system protection and operationsSignificant P&C field test work experience preferred; minimum 7 years3 years as a supervisor or manager experience preferredSignificant experience in substation design, construction, maintenance, or operations preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to effectively lead and develop peopleAbility to initiate and encourage others to follow safe work practicesAbility to hold self and others accountable for work behaviors and expectationsAbility to manage multiple and complex projects and to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentAbility to adapt to changing demands and re-prioritize as necessaryAbility to build and sustain relationships across the company and systemAbility to effectively communicate verbally and in writing Behavioral Attributes Safety leadership - strong adherence to Safety First principlesOperational Excellence - strong support for Human Performance principlesRole model of “Our Values” of Safety, Inclusion, Integrity, and PerformanceMotivation through leadership and communication skillsDevelops and builds relationships at all levelsInitiative to resolve issues and challengesAbility to deal with heavy workloads, multiple tasks, and conflicting demandsTimely and accurate follow through on commitmentsWorks well independently and as a team memberDemonstrated learner and supporter of a learning environment Other Must have a valid driver's licenseMust pass background requirements for access at Southern Nuclear and CIP Medium Transmission facilitiesMust be willing to travel routinely to dispersed group offices throughout the stateMust live in or be willing to relocate to a commutable distance of the Hueytown, AL office locationPartial relocation assistance may be available Alabama Power provides safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to 1.5 million customers across the lower two-thirds of Alabama.
