Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with physicians in evaluating and recommending prosthetic and/or orthotic services.
  • Evaluate patient needs and formulate design of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
  • Select materials, make cast measurements, model modifications, and layouts, considering new techniques and materials.
  • Perform fitting, ensuring static and dynamic alignments.
  • Instruct patients on the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
  • Evaluate and address issues/problems to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Provide follow-up with patients and physicians.
  • Train physicians and allied health care professionals.
  • Utilize effective materials management and quality processes to maximize device quality and medical efficacy.
  • Meet with physicians, case managers, and referral sources to discuss prosthetic and/or orthotic services.
  • Develop and enhance business relationships to secure ongoing and future sources of referrals.
  • Plan and implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets.
  • Prepare detailed clinical notes for patient records.
  • Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians.
  • Assist other clinical staff.
  • Contribute to administrative tasks for reimbursement activities.
  • Adequately adhere to safety regulations, compliance with Medicare and other governmental regulations, and OSHA requirements.
  • Be available for on-call, hospital calls, or floating between more than one Hanger Clinic location.

Requirements

  • Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC).
  • Current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics.
  • A baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics, or the foreign equivalent.
  • A valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain state licensure if required.
  • The willingness to complete residency in the other discipline if not certified or board-eligible.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated past experience in providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under the supervision of a certified clinician.

  • Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses.
  • Effective communication skills for accurate, concise, and organized oral and written presentations and reports.
  • Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with physicians, therapists, and patients.
  • Effective organizational, time management, and planning skills.
  • Integrity in all actions and relationships, focusing on superior outcomes and outstanding results.
