Propulsion Engineer

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. We have an exciting opportunity for a Propulsion Engineer in Poway, CA to support fielded systems that directly impact the success of our customers. This role offers the chance to learn and grow with exposure to multiple aircraft platforms and propulsion system types.

Responsibilities

• Support the fielding of aircraft propulsion systems, including heavy fuel piston engines, propellers, fuel systems, oil systems, hydraulic systems, and related components.
• Support and contribute to propulsion system testing and analysis, documentation of findings, communication of results, and technical presentations.
• Assist in completing program deliverables such as test plans and reports, analysis documentation, and other deliverables to meet program objectives, requirements, and schedule.
• Troubleshoot various propulsion-related systems including heavy fuel piston engines, engine control systems, fuel systems, oil systems, hydraulic systems, propellers, and related components. Resolve field and test issues independently or with minimal oversight.
• Review various manufacturing processes and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Collaborate and effectively interact with peers, management, and other engineering disciplines on technical matters requiring communication and coordination to solve complex challenges.
• Prepare and review engineering documentation for delivery to peers, technical staff, executive management, and customers.
• Perform work either individually or in a team environment.
• Provide guidance and direction to design or technical staff.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
• Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
• Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

• Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution, with progressive engineering experience:
  • Six or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree,
  • Four or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or
  • Two or more years with a PhD.
  May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a propulsion system-related field required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of engineering field support preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
• Able to work extended hours if required.

Skills

• Understanding of a wide range of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and continuously expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
• Excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to recognize roadblocks or issues and suggest an appropriate course of action for prevention or resolution.
• Able to adapt and react quickly to changes and challenges presented.
• Experience working with NX, CREO, or Catia.
• A thirst for learning about new products.

Pay

Salary range: $98,100 - $171,398
