Responsibilities
- Independently qualify and price new and renewal business, exercising discretion and judgment to accept, reject, or modify submissions.
- Request additional information to qualify submissions and communicate decisions to producers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with producers in assigned regions, serving as the primary point of contact.
- Analyze and review underwriting information, including applications, MVRs, loss notifications, inspections, financial reports, and supplemental applications.
- Participate in large account reviews and prepare underwriting approaches for significant renewals and new business.
- Ensure adherence to delegated underwriting authority and service standards.
- Maintain accurate and compliant policy documentation, meeting all file documentation standards and passing internal and external audits.
- Provide guidance and instructions to Underwriting Assistants, including performance evaluations and staffing management, as applicable.
- Monitor risk control and claims activities, and take appropriate action on transactions exceeding Underwriting Assistants' authority.
- Support sales staff by attending agent meetings, conventions, trade shows, and agent visits as needed.
- Evaluate and compare competitors' forms and coverages.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in insurance, business, or a related field preferred. Progress toward AU, CPCU, ARM designation, or comparable higher insurance education is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Property & Casualty Underwriter, or 3 years of industry experience as an underwriting assistant, CSR, or agent/agency management.
- Licensing: Must possess or obtain a current property-casulty license for the state of residence within three (3) months, along with any additional required licenses.
