About the Role
The Property Accountant will support property accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and portfolio accounting activities within a commercial real estate environment. They will work closely with accounting, finance, operations, leasing, and development teams to maintain accurate financial records and support the accounting function across a portfolio of real estate assets.
Responsibilities
- Maintain monthly general ledger activity and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions for assigned properties.
- Prepare financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules in accordance with accounting policies and reporting deadlines.
- Manage tenant billings, including common area maintenance charges, utilities, real estate taxes, and other property-related recoveries.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasting activities, and financial analysis for property portfolios.
- Monitor cash activity, support cash reporting, and assist with funding and account reconciliation processes.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
- Experience: 2-4 years of accounting experience within public accounting, property accounting, or commercial real estate accounting is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience with commercial real estate accounting, financial statement preparation, and general ledger management is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required, and experience with MRI, AvidXchange, Anaplan, or similar accounting systems is preferred.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment are required.
