PROMISE Faculty

IMSA’s PROMISE Program addresses the unique challenges of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse (CLED) students who have an interest in STEM education by providing academic enrichment programming at low to no cost. This grant-funded program is open to all students, especially Black or African American students, Latinx students, students who qualify for the national free or reduced-price meal program, as well as students from rural Illinois counties. The program serves non-IMSA students currently enrolled in 9th grade.

About the Program

• Seven designated Saturday sessions for the fall 2026 program.
• Expected work hours: Saturdays 8:15 AM – 1:00 PM.
• Maximum of 80 participants per session.

Schedule

• Three 65-minute classes each session with approximately 25 students per group.
• Class 1: 9:00 AM – 10:05 AM
• Class 2: 10:10 AM – 11:15 AM
• Brunch: 11:30 AM – 11:50 AM
• Class 3: 11:55 AM – 1:00 PM

Responsibilities

• Develop a daily lesson plan, which may include approved original curriculum, activities used in previous years, or curriculum provided by the Outreach department.
• Lead lectures and hands-on activities with assistance from student tutors.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment for participating students.
• Complete an evaluation form for each program participant.

Support

• Faculty will have the assistance of IMSA student tutors who can lead or facilitate activities for the class and/or small groups.
• One instruction period per session will be a “Specials” course, featuring a rotation of special guest instructors from disciplines across the Academy. Special guests are compensated and can sign up for 1-2 sessions.
