Project Transportation Engineer
About the role
Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT), an ENR 500 A/E firm, is seeking a Transportation Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience to join the transportation team in our Columbus, OH office. This position will support a variety of projects involving data collection, existing condition and alternative analysis evaluation for engineering reports, development of horizontal and vertical alignments, cross section and superelevation design, roadside barrier design, ADA curb ramp design, roadway modeling, and MOT/traffic-related plans.
The candidate may also be involved with other AMT offices and project opportunities, offering significant challenges, rewards, and a hybrid work environment (2-3 days in the office with flexibility to work remotely other days).
Responsibilities
- Perform design for roadway transportation projects, including cost estimating, specifications, and highway plans for construction bid packages.
- Develop horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, and superelevation designs.
- Design roadside barriers and ADA-compliant curb ramps.
- Conduct roadway modeling and prepare MOT/traffic-related plans.
- Apply transportation design standards in project execution.
- Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and team members to maintain positive working relationships.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in transportation engineering.
- Ohio Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of civil engineering design concepts.
- Experience with MicroStation and Open Roads Designer (ORD) required.
- Prior work experience with ODOT required; experience with City of Columbus, other municipalities, or state DOTs preferred.
Skills
- Experience with ORD intersection and roadway corridor modeling (a plus).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil3D (a plus).
- Familiarity with GIS applications such as ArcGIS or Google Earth (a plus).
- Experience with SignCAD or AutoTurn (a plus).
- Completion of ODOT prequalification courses (a plus).
- Strong skills in MS Office products (Word, Excel).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
