Project Surveyor (Field)
About the role
The Project Surveyor is responsible for obtaining survey measurements under the supervision of a senior team member or Group Leader. The primary responsibilities include traveling to project sites to facilitate the production of geodetic control, topographic, utility, and boundary surveys. The Project Surveyor will survey and investigate land surfaces to project precise measurements and locations, while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. The Project Surveyor will collaborate with project team members, client representatives, contractors, review agencies and others as appropriate for the project.
Responsibilities
- Conduct physical site surveys using a variety of equipment and tools
- Survey and investigate land surfaces to project precise measurement and location of lines, angles, points, area, and elevations
- Perform mathematical calculations to determine and confirm surveying measurements
- Ensure compliance to all applicable regulations and requirements including boundary calculations and legal issues
- Collaborate with other engineers and support staff during preliminary and final plan preparation for conformance to standards and code requirements
- Schedule and prioritize field surveying activities to ensure that deadlines and objectives are met
- Review Survey deliverables drafted by others to ensure proper QA/QC
- Review project drawings
- Ensure that the company safety, quality and technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of team projects
- Compile reports detailing legal boundaries and other relevant information
- Ability to manage their schedule to accommodate changing client demands
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or other closely related field of study (preferred)
- 3+ years of experience applying surveying principles and practices or relevant internship experience
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exam
- Proficient in comprehending schematics and blueprints
- Ability to use survey equipment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) and other land development software to interpret and present information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Up to 100% travel (i.e. project sites) may be required based upon business need. Some travel may require out of town expenses that will be reimbursed
Working Conditions
The worker is required to work in the field and will be exposed to outside weather conditions. Additional environmental conditions may vary by job site.
Physical Demands
Mobile work: exerting up to forty (40) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Mobile work involves walking and traversing project sites to collect features
