Project Surveyor

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Project Surveyor in New York, NY covering the five boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island) with flexibility to cover some projects in Northern New Jersey. This is an office position that requires occasional field visits. The role typically reports to a Project Manager or Director of Surveying. The candidate must be experienced in both field and office surveying and must possess a professional surveying license or be able to obtain licensure within 1 year of being hired.
Responsibilities
- Oversee field data collection to ensure accurate data and mapping
- Oversee office efforts to ensure accurate processing and mapping
- Write survey reports, control reports, and project deliverables
- Perform QA/QC of surveying products and data
- Review field data and office processing to ensure accuracy and coverage of project limits
- Discuss daily with field crew to determine project status and help move projects forward
- Ensure all team members fully understand project scopes and follow them closely, as specifications vary by project and client
- Review mapping and field-collected data, assess previous data, and determine updates or additional information needed based on client requirements
- Participate in discussions and meetings with project managers, crew managers, and directors to determine project needs and help organize crews
- Provide hands-on training to field and office personnel, including field visits or CAD work to support professional growth
- Engage in professional mentoring, growth, and training for team members
Requirements
- 10 years of surveying experience
- Professional Surveying license or ability to obtain licensure within 1 year
- Passed the CST or FS exam (preferred)
- College degree or certificate in surveying
- Experience with Total Stations, Digital or automatic Levels, Laser Scanners, and GNSS Systems
- Experience in CAD for surveying and mapping
- Experience processing total station, GNSS, levels, and other surveying data
- Knowledge of Topographic Surveying and Boundary and Right of Way Investigation
- Exceptional note and record-keeping ability
- Ability to produce quality survey products based on sound judgment and professional knowledge
- Ability to carry out direction, work with others, and maintain communication with management and crew members
- Capable of leading and mentoring field and office personnel
- Ability to manage and organize large, complex projects with changing requirements

Pay
The base salary range for this role is indicated in the posting. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
