Project Superintendent II - Mining Division
About the role
The Project Superintendent (PS) role at Sundt is a critical position within a 100% employee-owned contractor. You'll be part of a team deeply invested in their work, focusing on building long-term prosperity for clients, communities, and employee-owners. The role involves managing field operations, ensuring project success, and collaborating with the Project Manager to develop comprehensive project management plans.
Responsibilities
- Manages field operations and is responsible for project success, including profitability, safety, schedule, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborates with the Project Manager to develop the project management plan, including scope management, procurement, environmental, time management, financial, quality management, safety, and risk management plans.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the change management process and develops and implements Project Quality Management and Safety plans according to Sundt standards.
- Provides leadership and guidance to assigned project team members and subcontractors, planning, reviewing, developing, and managing the project team to ensure relentless execution of the project.
- Ensures work is executed according to contract terms and conditions in a profitable manner, developing and managing the construction plan for successful execution of the work performed.
- Prepares and updates the original CPM Project Schedule and ensures the schedule is kept current to manage the project appropriately using LEAN processes and Weekly Work Plans.
- Conducts weekly coordination meetings with project teams and subcontractors and prepares daily field status reports.
- Interacts effectively with owners, teams, and other stakeholders to maintain a positive project environment and exceptional client experience.
- Assists in the review of shop drawings, submittals, subcontract change orders, and purchase orders, coordinating the documentation of constructability issues, potential design conflicts, and clarifications.
- Responsible for the timely completion of all punch lists and developing a schedule as required by the owner for the successful start-up and commissioning of all systems.
- Prevents claims, identifies potential claims, quantifies, documents, mitigates/ resolves the effects of those that do occur on a timely basis.
Requirements
- Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience required.
- Must have construction project and supervision experience in similar types of facilities.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, and methods), negotiations, engineering, cost control, scheduling, and safety.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and supervisory skills are essential.
Physical Requirements
- Sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/work day.
- Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, etc., lift, push or pull objects on an occasional basis.
- Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
- Reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
- Stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis.
- Able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- Wear personal protective equipment as required (steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
- Interact with people frequently during a shift/work day.
- Use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
