Project Superintendent

About the role

The primary function of the Project Superintendent is to control all field activities related to a project, including on-site field administration, supervision, and technical management of all construction operations. This role involves supervising and mentoring Assistant Project Superintendents, Field Engineers, and laborers, as well as overseeing daily construction operations, subcontractors, owner vendors, and other construction-related personnel.

Responsibilities

• Supervise projects with budgets ranging from $5M to $60M across various delivery methods, market sectors, and complexities.
• Assist Senior Project Superintendents or assigned supervisors on large project teams.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce project-specific site logistics plans, temporary facilities, and safety programs.
• Coordinate and manage all material deliveries and subcontracts.
• Assist the Project Manager in developing subcontractor-specific scopes of work as exhibits to subcontracts.
• Provide input to the Project Manager on field activities impacting costs and follow procedures for documenting change orders and back charges.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce the overall baseline schedule and weekly 8-week look-ahead schedules.
• Implement and manage all SWPPP measures and documentation.
• Obtain and maintain QSP certification if required by the project.
• Possess knowledge of all project documents, including plans, specifications, contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, correspondence, shop drawings, and submittals.
• Read, understand, and enforce subcontracts and their exhibits in the field.
• Stay updated on document changes and ensure proper implementation in the field.
• Provide technical assistance to all project team members and coordinate field inspections and testing.
• Assist in providing field information for Monthly Reconciliation Reports and forecasts.
• Develop, implement, and enforce project-specific quality control programs, including subcontractors.
• Prepare and maintain the project’s P6 baseline schedule and monthly updates, including schedule delays/fragnets.
• Ensure timely updates to schedules for meetings (e.g., OAC and Subcontractor meetings).
• Monitor all job site control reporting measures.
• Document existing project conditions via video prior to construction.
• Oversee weekly progress photos, ensuring proper labeling and filing on Box.com.
• Prepare and distribute meeting minutes for weekly subcontractor, pre-installation, and safety meetings.
• Create and issue project-specific Incident Reports.
• Schedule and chair all JHA-related meetings, utilizing the WEO safety department when applicable.
• Oversee and manage daily coordination of subcontractor activities.
• Document actions related to actual or possible claims/legal action.
• Ensure compliance with insurance, labor relations, and EEO requirements.
• Supervise WEO-employed or third-party laborers and prepare/submit weekly time sheets for WEO labor.
• Assist the Project Manager in developing the General Conditions budget.
• Understand and enforce WEO and Cal-OSHA safety standards.
• Collect man counts and daily reports for each subcontractor, writing concise descriptions of daily work in WEO daily reports.
• Create and manage completion and punch lists, ensuring timely completion of all items.
• Mentor field staff and conduct annual performance reviews.
• Develop skills and career paths for Field Engineers and Assistant Project Superintendents.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience in a related field, or 5–10 years of relevant project field experience as a Field Engineer and Assistant Project Superintendent.
• Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Project or P6 Scheduling Software and Project Management Software (e.g., Prolog, Viewpoint, CMiC, or equivalent).
• Experience with daily software tools such as Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Safety Mojo, or BIM 360 Glue.
• Demonstrated knowledge of construction delivery methods, market sectors, construction administration, building trades, technical aspects of construction (means and methods, materials, systems), planning, scheduling, estimating, and owner/architect relations.
• Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Safety Course.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
