About the role

S&B is seeking a lead Subcontracts Representative for projects involving high-dollar or technically unique items, or critical product lines. This role plans, schedules, coordinates, and oversees the work of Subcontracts Administrators and clerical support personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the development of the Project Execution Plan in Subcontracts.
  • Create Project Subcontracting Plans and Procedures.
  • Create Project Bidders Lists.
  • Consult with engineering and construction management to clarify material and scope of work requirements.
  • Prepare and submit Request for Quotations.
  • Discuss needs with subcontractors, review their alternate suggestions, and make recommendations to project management regarding cost reductions, better deliveries, and sales terms.
  • Consult with subcontractors and project engineers regarding the technical suitability of equipment and work methods.
  • Analyze quotations and select suppliers.
  • Make commitments and negotiate prices and delivery terms.
  • Secure quotations and develop cost information for proposals.
  • Represent the subcontracts function in client presentations.
  • Negotiate claim settlements and back charges with suppliers.
  • Create bid tabulation forms and other subcontract documents.
  • Obtain routine cost information for estimating purposes.
  • Enter and distribute subcontract documents.
  • Solicit information from subcontractors regarding their capabilities and qualifications and update the supplier database of information.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of related subcontracts experience.
  • Ability to type and proficiency in standard Microsoft Office products.

Education

  • Normal requirement: 4-year degree in Business Administration (or related curriculum).
  • In lieu of a degree, 12-15 years of equivalent experience in construction-related subcontracting activities is also acceptable.

Skills

  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical bulletins, and government regulations.
  • The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • The ability to effectively deliver oral presentations and respond to questions from groups of managers, engineers, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Interpersonal communication and relationship development skills.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally participates in a field trip to the job site and may be assigned to work at a job site for several months at a time.
  • This requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb, and balance.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
