Project Scope and Responsibilities
The Project Safety Advisor will support the Valley North Transmission Line Project, a large-scale, multi-state infrastructure initiative involving the development of approximately 260 miles of new 765-kV transmission line from Putnam County, West Virginia to Frederick County, Maryland, including associated substations.
Position: Project Safety Advisor
- Contractor safety management program implementation
- Complete quality safety observations, including documentation of findings with a focus on leading indicators
- Establish, build, and maintain effective relationships with appropriate stakeholders
- Provide safety leadership for grid enhancement projects
- Verify compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law and the owner
- Work to ensure safety requirements are clear to contractors
- Represent the utility client in meetings
- Prepare reports in a clear and concise manner
- Reinforces safety culture with field crews
- Adequately adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures
Requirements
- A professional safety certification from an industry-recognized safety organization, OR a college degree in a safety-related field and at least two (2) years of demonstrable safety management-related experience
- OR at least five (5) years of increasing responsibility in professional, technical, safety management, and/or electric utility operations experience
- Be able to work outdoors in all reasonable conditions
- Proficient with effective email correspondence, electronic document development, creating safety-related communications (bulletins, alerts, etc.), navigating new computer software and applications
- Able to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities is critical to success
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work in a collaborative team setting
- Able to lead meetings and initiatives to drive results
- Able to drive to multiple areas around the state
Qualifications
- Experience preferred in the following areas:
- Transmission & distribution, construction
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local
Physical Demands
- Moving about long distances
- Ascending/descending stairs and ladders
- Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
- Working in extreme weather (hot and cold environments)
- Being exposed to loud noises
- Wearing personal protective gear correctly
