Project ManagementFull-time
About the role
The Project Planner is responsible for ensuring that the Surfaces Projects are properly developed in the Master Schedule for the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. The role involves consolidating, validating, and maintaining the Surface Project schedules beyond Level 3, providing schedule integrity, execution visibility, and forward-looking analysis to Engineering and Construction leadership.
Responsibilities
- Ensure surface development schedule(s) reflect realistic sequencing, permitting constraints, and safety-critical activities.
- Coordinate alignment with the underground planner for mine development and link to the process facilities, utilities readiness, and execution logic.
- Schedule Consolidation (+L3): Consolidate execution partner schedules, possibly developed in other tools, into Primavera P6. Maintain detailed L3+ activities, including integration of engineering, procurement, vendor, construction and commissioning schedules. Validate logic and milestone integrity, calendars, constraints, and coding before accepting the schedule.
- Progress Measurement and Forecasting: Lead schedule update meetings and deal directly with partners – contractors to ensure the latest schedules are being issued. Coordinate regular schedule updates, using physical percent complete using rules of credit, prepare forecast for remaining activities for execution and analyze late delivery outcomes by teams within project scope. Compare contractor-reported progress, P6 logic, and field observations. Identify schedule risks, logic conflicts, and emerging execution trends impacting surface project development.
- Look-Ahead Planning and Reporting: Produce three-week look-ahead and look-back schedules to support surface project execution. Support the development of project-focused dashboards (in Power BI) and critical path summaries for Engineering and Construction leadership. Highlight impacts of deviations from any individual subproject, performance issues affecting delivery, potential resource availability issues, and changes in the sequencing of the work.
- Interfaces and Decision Support: Work closely with Engineering teams, execution partners, and Construction Leadership to evaluate sequencing options and optimize execution scenarios. Provide validated schedule inputs to integrate into the Master Schedule. Provide analysis on progress and mitigation plans for deviations. Support the Surface Project Manager with schedule-driven analysis for execution decisions. Report functionally to the Senior Program Planner for schedule structure, framework, and strategies for updating the schedule in the Surface project scope.
- Systems and Information Management: Maintain scheduling data in Primavera P6 (PPM) in accordance with project standards. Ensure data exchanges from partner – contractor schedules are controlled, traceable, and auditable. Establish an Earned Value system for the work performed throughout the Surfaces project. Support future integration with Microsoft Dynamics - Business Central for an automated approach to reporting progress per contract and other project systems, including Power BI reporting.
