Project Paint Manager

Job Purpose To direct the painting and decorating of the interior and exterior of buildings, equipment, machinery and furniture. He/she is responsible for planning and supervising painters and for maintaining records of the department. Key Responsibilities Knows the assigned location of all teams each weekKnows the specific van assignments for each teamAssures that each team has the proper tools/equipment and that tools/equipment are kept clean and properly maintainedKeeps everyone informed of the things that are happening on each teamKeeps team members updated on information coming from corporateConducts team meetings via telephone once a monthArranges to visit each team as needed to train or assist with certain projectsSolves problems of day to day activitiesWorks with Contracting Department to ensure vans are properly serviced and maintainedPromotes partner safety by encouraging safe work practices and adherence to company’s safety programMaintains a six month inventory of tools on each vanPerforms skilled and semi-skilled painting tasks in the removal of existing paint, preparation of surfaces to be painted, and the application of a variety of surface materials with either brush or rollerCommunicates with staff to establish and maintain effective working relationshipsEvaluates staff in accordance with established policyErects, moves and works from scaffolds and laddersMixes and matches paints and stains by using proper pigments, base and thinnerPrepares surfaces to be painted by use of power cleaning equipment, scrapers, sandpaper, sanding machines, etc.Applies paints, stains, sealers, varnishes, fillers, and other coating materials to interior and exterior of buildings, facilities, and equipmentPatches plaster and sheetrock by using fillers, tape, spackling compound, patching plasters, etc.Assists other crews as neededResponds to after hour emergencies as requestedPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Word, and ExcelHas knowledge and understanding of the budget for the paint teamProficient in estimating materials and labor requirementsA working knowledge about asbestos and handling Minimum Education Required High School diploma or have an equivalent GED. Minimum Experience Required Seven years of skilled/journeyman-level painter experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
