Position Summary
The Project Manager – Water/Wastewater (PE) leads the delivery of water, wastewater, stormwater, and civil infrastructure projects from planning through design and execution. This role is responsible for technical leadership, project management, client engagement, and mentoring junior staff while ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
Essential Job Functions
- Lead the preparation of engineering reports, design documents, and technical specifications.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources across multidisciplinary teams.
- Serve as lead engineer on stormwater and wastewater projects.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through consistent communication and high-quality delivery.
- Mentor and develop junior engineering staff.
- Evaluate evolving water, wastewater, and stormwater regulations and assess municipal impacts.
- Provide technical support related to resiliency and sustainability design elements.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications and coordinate closely with internal design teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Experience with hydraulic modeling and civil design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel periodically (approximately 15% or more).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with municipal or utility clients.
- Familiarity with Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) regulations.
- Prior experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform office-based work with occasional visits to project or construction sites.
- Ability to walk, stand, and perform light to moderate physical activity, including occasional lifting of up to 25–50 pounds.
- Ability to use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
