Project Manager - Water/Wastewater
About the role
RK&K is seeking Project Managers to lead municipal water/wastewater infrastructure projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. Key responsibilities include project deliverables coordination, problem-solving, mentoring, scope negotiation, budget management, client interfacing, and proposal development.
Responsibilities
- Develop project deliverables including coordination of engineering disciplines in a collaborative team environment.
- Solve complex problems, provide technical evaluations, and assess costs and benefits of alternative solutions for water/wastewater clients.
- Mentor and develop less experienced/junior engineering professionals, establishing growth opportunities and building project delivery teams.
- Manage a variety of municipal water/wastewater infrastructure projects such as water transmission and distribution, sewage collection and conveyance, water booster stations and sewage pumping stations, pipeline rehabilitation, and more.
- Negotiate and manage scopes of work, schedules, and budgets for water/wastewater projects.
- Routinely utilize internal systems for project management, quality control, and quality assurance.
- Interface with clients, subconsultants, and local, state, and federal permitting agencies to execute water/wastewater projects.
- Identify and create project opportunities by networking with potential clients, including public and private utilities and related agencies.
- Support group leadership in marketing and pursuit of new work leads focusing primarily on water/wastewater municipal clients.
- Participate in developing proposals in response to Request for Proposals (RFPs) from clients and potential clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or related engineering field.
- At least ten (10) years of relevant experience in consulting engineering in the municipal water/wastewater industry, with a progression of responsibility including project delivery, project management, and business development.
- Professional Engineers license in Virginia, or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
- Existing municipal/private engineering client relationships and/or the ability to develop and nurture such relationships.
- Proficiency in communicating technical information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with project management software.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to water/wastewater projects.

Qualifications
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field, ten years of relevant experience in municipal water/wastewater engineering, and a Professional Engineers license in Virginia or the ability to obtain through reciprocity.
