Project Manager - Tunnels and Trenchless

About the role

The Grade 6-7 Senior Project Manager – Tunnels and Trenchless role at GEI is a senior-level position designed for professionals with extensive experience in tunnel and trenchless design, capable of managing projects ranging from $100k to over $1M. The role involves managing projects throughout the United States, including geotechnical, geological, and geo-structural projects.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

• Manage primarily tunnel and trenchless projects, as well as geotechnical, geological, and geo-structural projects (consulting engineer project values from $100k to + $1M) throughout the United States.

• Develop proposals and manage project scope, fee, schedules, and invoices.

• Perform and/or oversee and review geotechnical and structural design calculations using hand calculations, GeoStudio, RocScience, and finite element modeling software as appropriate to the project.

• Direct and mentor staff in conducting data collection and analysis to support engineering designs, including geotechnical investigations with typical tasks that include subsurface investigations, well construction, field mapping, geophysics, permitting, and other field work.

• Create design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or GIS software as appropriate.

• Prepare technical reports including but not limited to technical memorandums, specifications, geotechnical investigation reports, tunnel feasibility reports, geotechnical data reports, geotechnical baseline reports, construction cost estimates, basis of design reports, etc.

• Develop related business sectors, including participation in conferences and professional groups related to geotechnical, tunnel, trenchless, geo-structural, and geologic engineering as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

• 15-20 years experience
• Underground construction and design for civil structures
• Material sciences (steel and concrete)
• Applied mathematics
• Fluid dynamics (pipeline, open channel, and groundwater)
• Geologic hazards (assessment, mitigation, and design)
• Soil and rock mechanics
• Engineering geology (civil applications)
• Engineering (civil, geotechnical, or structural)
• Underground construction and design for civil structures
• Surfaces and bedrock identification
• Engineering (civil geotechnical or structural)
