Project Manager - Transmission and Substation Team
About the role
Welty Energy is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, substation engineering, and construction oversight. Headquartered in Akron, OH, we manage projects ranging from 4kV to 765kV for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and coordinate the completion of all activities for low voltage engineering, design, procurement, and construction of major capital projects and programs.
- Coordinate with all applicable stakeholders to establish and maintain communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct technical reviews of specifications, drawings, contracts, addenda, and other construction documents to ensure constructability and compliance with client standards.
- Direct project planning and status meetings to ensure schedule and financial adherence, and address significant issues.
- Oversee and coordinate construction package reviews, pre-award meetings, field visits, and pre-award project site walk-downs.
- Act as the primary point of contact with clients regarding project progress and requirements.
- Provide schedule updates and communicate engineering, construction, and budget statuses to internal and external management teams.
- Avoid schedule interruptions and conflicts with other projects by identifying and communicating necessary outages and obtaining required permits.
- Assist Portfolio Managers with coordination, preparation, and reporting of significant activities on construction projects and programs.
- Perform regular site safety inspections and focus on stakeholder interaction and client expectations.
- Follow project management principles to estimate, monitor, and control approved funding, resources, schedules, and project activities.
- Adhere to client methods, processes, and policies while planning and executing projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or relevant experience in electric utility project management.
- Minimum of three years of experience in project management for the Utility sector (electric power such as Substation or Transmission).
- PMP certification preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective leadership and organizational skills.
- Travel of up to 20% is required.
Qualifications
We require a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or relevant experience in electric utility project management. Minimum of three years of experience in project management for the Utility sector (electric power such as Substation or Transmission). PMP certification is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with effective leadership and organizational skills. Travel of up to 20% is required.
